Historiese Terugblik

Die Newton skool is in 1883 begin as 'n "second class Public School".

The Newton school was established in 1883 as a "second class Public School". Due to bad support it ceased to exist in 1885. The church council of the Newton Dutch Reformed Church then took over the school and managed it as the Newton Day School. In June 1890, however, financial liabilities obliged the church council to write toe the Board of Management of Undenominational Schools to ask whether they could take over and administer the school. On 1 October 1890 the Newton Day School was officially taken over by the Board, with a Miss Kyle as principal. It was the official beginning of the Newton school as we know it today. In 1990 the school had its centenary. Newton will continue to build on this traditional foundation, because the root of education may be bitter, but the fruit is sweet.
